Jewellery making is such a joyful and intricate process—one that demands love, time, and serious attention to detail. Whether you're knotting vibrant cotton cords (my personal favourite!) or weaving tiny beads into place, the work is physical, creative, and sometimes a little messy. So, creating a workspace that supports both your creativity and your comfort is essential. After years of designing colourful statement pieces and teaching my fingers to twist, loop, and stitch with care, I’ve picked up a few tips on building the perfect set-up.If you’re dreaming of a calm, inspiring space to bring your jewellery ideas to life, here’s where to start.
My Happy Place!

🌿 Find a Peaceful Spot Just for You
Your workspace should feel like your own little creative retreat. Choose somewhere tucked away—a corner of a room, a spare nook, or even a converted garden shed—where you won’t be interrupted mid-creation or have materials knocked over by curious little hands (or paws!).Even a small dedicated space, when styled right, can help you focus, flow, and feel in control.

💡 Light It Right (and Be Kind to Your Eyes)
Jewellery work is detailed work, so good lighting is a must. I love a mix of natural daylight during the day and a soft adjustable desk lamp when the sun goes down. Bright overhead lights can be tiring, so I keep the mood warm and gentle. It’s also really important to protect your eyes. I always keep my glasses and magnifiers close by, so I’m not straining or squinting while working on the finer details.

🪑 Give Yourself Room to Move
When I first started Handmade by Tinni, I worked from a tiny corner table. It worked—for a while. But once orders and ideas grew, I knew I needed a better setup. If you're serious about making jewellery regularly, don't limit yourself to a fold-up desk.Find a table with enough surface space to lay out materials, sketch ideas, and move freely between tools. I like to keep my cotton ropes, scissors, pliers, and colour charts within easy reach—because when creativity strikes, I don’t want to waste a moment digging through drawers!A comfy, supportive chair is a game-changer too. Trust me, your back and shoulders will thank you.

🧺 Stay Organised (But Make It Inspiring)
Organisation doesn’t have to be boring. I use clear boxes, small trays, and even old jam jars to sort everything—from cord colours to hardware. My wall is filled with mood boards, colour palettes, and test swatches. It helps me feel creatively grounded and excited every time I sit down. When your space is tidy and visually inspiring, you naturally feel more motivated to create.

✨ Personalise It – Make It a Space You Want to Be In
Your workspace should feel like a reflection of you. Add colour, music, candles, plants, or anything that makes you smile. This is where your ideas come to life—where statement pieces, gifts, and wearable joy begin. So make it beautiful. Make it comfortable. And most of all, make it yours.
