For me the best part of living in London is discovering the small businesses that really bring magic and originality. I live in East London and as a small creative designer myself, I feel really privileged to live and work around so many talented creatives and champions. I still remember the excitement of first seeing these quirky shops and touching their beautifully curated and made designs of the artists they stock.
There’s something special about these spaces. They’re not just shops; they’re stories, communities, and creative ecosystems.
Some, like Urban Makers UK, bring together a collective of independent designers (including myself!), offering a platform for emerging talent to be seen and celebrated. Others, like The 192 Collective, are rethinking retail entirely—creating collaborative spaces where independent brands can share, grow, and thrive together.
Then there are shops that feel like pure inspiration the moment you walk in. Glow London champions bold, wearable creativity, while Luna & Curious feels like a miniature department store of beautifully crafted treasures, each with a story behind it.
Spaces like Know & Love are rooted deeply in community, built on relationships, creativity, and a shared love for thoughtful design. And destinations like Camden Art Centre remind us how closely art, culture, and retail can intertwine—making creativity accessible to everyone.
In WORD London, you’ll find a warm, family-focused space filled with considered brands, while Loop London offers a completely different kind of magic—a tactile, colourful world of yarns, craftsmanship, and slow creativity.
And of course, nestled within the iconic Columbia Road, Precious Boutique stands as a beautifully curated fashion destination, bringing together contemporary clothing and accessories in one of East London’s most vibrant creative streets.
These small shops are full of delight—and even bigger dreams. Behind every display is a story, a risk taken, a vision brought to life. Supporting them isn’t just about shopping. It’s about backing creativity, individuality, and the future of independent retail.
So if you find yourself wandering through East London, make the time to step inside. Browse slowly. Talk to the people behind the counters. Discover something unexpected.
Their creativity will hold you captive—I promise.
Let’s make this our summer of small business love.
With 90% of UK adults saying they care about the future of independent businesses, this is our moment to come together, support local, and celebrate the incredible creativity that exists right on our doorstep.

The 192 Collective
192 Upper St, Islington, London, N1 1RQ

192 Collective is an independent group showcasing uniquely designed, thoughtfully sourced fashion and homeware items, crafted with exquisite attention to detail and aesthetic appeal.
''While building the brand, I realised that many independent designers were facing the same structural challenge: limited access to physical retail and meaningful visibility.
I didn’t want to simply adapt to that reality - I wanted to challenge it.This thinking led me to establish The 192 Collective, a collaborative retail platform designed to rethink how independent brands can come together, share space and reach customers.
It is an experiment in building a different kind of retail model - one rooted in community, collaboration, shared opportunity and the belief that independent voices are vital to the future of our industry.
At its heart, everything I do is about people - the women who wear our garments, the independent businesses we support, and the communities we are part of. Creating thoughtfully and with care is simply the way I believe business should be done.''
