Interviews/ Features / Guest Blogs
We belong to this incredible creative community and have been blessed with some amazing interviews and features that covers our journey. Grateful and truly humbled.
Many of these interviews cover my design journey so far and they love that our brand is all about sustainability and vibrant, bold colour. Some also find it inspiring that I founded my brand, in 2020 just before the pandemic hit!
Handmade by Tinni was launched to address the lack of colourful, fun biodegradable jewellery for fashionistas who love expressing their personality with unusual, statement jewellery pieces. We want our designs to bring joy, inspire confidence and encourage ethical living.
Some if these features focus on the traditional art-form of our designs that is the art of traditional rope knotting crafts and processes like macramé which we specilise to create colourful, unique and bold designs.
Here are some of the highlights:

''With Friendship Day around the corner (July 30), it's a good time to join Paulomi Debnath in pledging an ever-lasting bond with nature. Although her venture to create handmade, sustainable jewellery doesn't only limit to wristbands alone. Debnath's wide range of trendsetting earrings and statement necklaces can easily make the wearer talk of the town and speaks volume about her creative spirit and ethical entrepreneurial skills.
Debnath founded 'Handmade by Tinni' in 2020 to address the lack of colourful, fun biodegradable jewellery for fashionistas who love expressing their personality with unusual, statement jewellery pieces.
"My brand is all about sustainability and joyful colour. I believe that doing business ethically is the only way of doing it. I am dedicated to creating a legacy of change for a cleaner, greener planet. Fundamentally every piece I create is made by hand, without using any machines or electricity (except lighting and heating!), and therefore with minimal environmental impact," said Debnath.''

She also owns her own business, Handmade by Tinni, and was recently named one of the UK’s Top 100 Female Entrepreneurs for 2022 by the f:Entrepreneur #ialso100 campaign. Tell us about your role with M&IW. When did you start and what is your current role?
I joined M&IW in September 2016, and my first day at work was at the all-company meeting at the time named Campus Week, now called the M&IW Summit. I was greeted with a strong bear hug from Jean and Tina, our two owners. I can never forget that warm welcome!
As a Senior Event Sourcing Manager, I am part of the Event Sourcing Team, and I am based in London. I am an international sourcing expert and work with various clients for our company.
How long have you been in the events and travel industry?
Can I share that without sharing my age? In all honesty, it has been 20+ wonderful years. I am fortunate to have worked with some of the top brands in the industry, including Corinthia, Starwood (now Marriott), Carlson Rezidor, Hilton, Thistle, and Guoman. Specifically in the last seven years, I have only worked in 5-star luxury travel, and that has changed my whole outlook of the travel industry. The goal is not just to find a hotel or venue but to provide a unique setting for the best experience for my clients. For me, luxury travel sales represents the most unique experiences that create lifelong memories.

More women plan to start a business
Also this week, a survey conducted by Small Business Britain has found that nearly a fifth (17%) of women in the UK are considering starting a business following the pandemic, with 48% citing a desire for more money as the biggest driver and 46% wanting the freedom of being their own boss.
The research, commissioned to mark International Women's Day, signals a "major shift in attitudes towards entrepreneurship among women" according to Small Business Britain. Women from ethnic minority backgrounds were also found to be much more likely to start a business; 7% of women who started businesses in the past year are from ethnic minority backgrounds, compared to just 1% three years ago.
Small Business Britain runs the ƒ:Entrepreneur #ialso100 campaign, which features an annual line-up of 100 of the UK's most inspiring female-led founders. This trend is reflected in Small Business Britain’s ƒ:Entrepreneur #ialso100 campaign, which features an annual line-up of 100 of the UK’s most inspiring female-led founders, to celebrate the growing tide of multi-achieving female entrepreneurs that lead businesses alongside a roster of other responsibilities, such as volunteering, mentoring and community support.
This year the campaign received a record number of applications since it first launched in 2017 and has seen an increase in the number of mission-driven female-led businesses keen to use the platform to grow, especially businesses committed to championing sustainability.
One such example is Paulomi Debnath, who started her textile jewellery and home décor business ‘Handmade by Tinni’ with the aim to grow a sustainable brand and support her community.
“I founded my creative business in 2020 just before the pandemic hit, and although running a new design-led brand in such difficult time, whilst also juggling a busy family life, has been a challenge, I have always had confidence that my ethical brand values and entrepreneurial spirit would get me through. My business is heavily influenced by my rich Indian heritage and champions vibrancy, confidence, and diversity, which I think are all elements that we should endeavour to celebrate in female entrepreneurship as well.”
